Iran, Germany seek to strengthen private-sector ties and technology cooperation

Iran and Germany should work to strengthen private-sector ties and expand trade and technology cooperation, Iran Chamber of Commerce President Samad Hassanzadeh said on Wednesday.

Speaking at a meeting with Germany’s Ambassador to Tehran Axel Dittmann, Hassanzadeh said the Iran Chamber was working with bilateral chambers to expand the country’s international economic relations, particularly in trade and technology transfer. He said Iran’s economic potential and Germany’s industrial capabilities provided a basis for closer cooperation, expressing hope that Dittmann could help plan initiatives to strengthen bilateral ties. Hassanzadeh said Iran and Germany had a notable history of cooperation, particularly in industry, but that the relationship had weakened in recent years. He recalled that Iranian companies had previously participated actively in specialized trade fairs in Germany, while German businesses had also engaged in reciprocal activities in Iran. He also pointed to a German-established technical school in the Iranian city of Tabriz, saying it remained active and had trained many Iranian engineers. “Even under the most difficult circumstances, we should not destroy the bridges of communication,” Hassanzadeh said, calling for plans to strengthen private-sector relations between the two countries. Dittmann said Iran and Germany would undoubtedly resume efforts to develop relations when conditions allowed. He described travel by Iranian and German citizens between the two countries as important for expanding ties and said Iran’s extensive resources and large market were important to Germany. The ambassador also expressed readiness to work on practical solutions to expand economic relations between Iran and Germany.
