Iran Chamber, ambassador call for revival of Iran-Singapore trade committee

Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture plans to revive and reactivate the joint Iran-Singapore trade committee, while Iran’s new non-resident ambassador to Singapore has also called for the committee to be reopened to strengthen commercial ties between the two countries.

Samad Hassanzadeh, president of the Iran Chamber, made the remarks during a meeting with Ambassador Ahmad Safari, where they discussed ways to expand economic and trade cooperation. Hassanzadeh said the chamber plans to revive and extend previous memorandums and agreements and rapidly restructure and reactivate the joint trade committee so that bilateral economic programs can be pursued through a clear and organized framework. Safari also called for the formation and reopening of the joint trade committee, saying cooperation with Singapore should be pursued more seriously in business circles. He said Iran’s diplomatic apparatus viewed trade relations with Singapore as serious and strategic. Hassanzadeh highlighted opportunities for Iranian companies in oil, refining and petrochemicals, engineering services, pharmaceuticals, auto parts, recycling and halal products. He said Iranian pharmaceutical companies had significant capacity to attract foreign investment and expand exports. He also highlighted Singapore’s role in commercial arbitration and called for greater cooperation between Iran’s Arbitration Center and its counterpart in Singapore. Safari described Singapore as a major commercial and logistics hub and key link in global supply chains. He called for a two- to three-year action plan between the private sector and the embassy, including cooperation in marketing Iranian products and high-tech technologies as well as recycling and sustainable economy. He said regular meetings and webinars between business communities, specialized trade delegations and direct links between leading companies would be pursued, while the embassy would convey Singapore’s market needs and priorities to the Iran Chamber.
