Iran sees strong potential for exports to Australian market

Australia’s stable economy, high purchasing power and diverse consumer market provide significant opportunities for Iranian exporters, the head of the Iran-Australia Joint Chamber said, highlighting the potential for products such as saffron, pistachios and dates to expand their presence in the country.

Hamidreza Managhebi said Australia’s high per-capita income and purchasing power made it an attractive destination for Iranian exporters, despite its smaller population compared with major markets such as China and India. “Despite the differences in market size, Australia is an important market for exporters because of its high purchasing power and diverse consumer base,” Managhebi said in an interview with the news website of Iran Chamber of Commerce. He said Australia’s diverse population and the presence of different communities created opportunities for a wide range of products, while some sectors of the Australian market were dependent on imports. Iran has competitive advantages in products including saffron, pistachios, dates, raisins, dried figs, medicinal herbs, handwoven carpets and handicrafts, Managhebi said, adding that these products could strengthen their position in the Australian market. He stressed that successful participation would require Iranian exporters to focus on consistent quality, international standards, professional packaging, transparent product information and supply-chain traceability. Australian consumers, he said, place particular importance on quality, food safety, product origin and brand reputation, creating opportunities for exporters able to meet these requirements. Managhebi also highlighted the expanding market for halal products in Australia, saying Iranian food producers with recognized standards and accepted halal certification could benefit from growing demand. The Iranian community in Australia could further contribute to marketing and developing commercial ties, he said, adding that the community’s potential should be used professionally and transparently. Managhebi said the Iran-Australia Joint Chamber could help Iranian companies access the market by providing market information, connecting businesses and supporting commercial diplomacy. Successful expansion into Australia, he said, would require a long-term approach and a shift from occasional transactions toward stable and sustainable trade relations.
